Hanoi (VNA) – A dedicated bicycle lane along Mai Chi Tho street in An Khanh ward, Ho Chi Minh City opened to the public on December 31.
The 5.8km lane runs parallel to the sidewalk of Mai Chi Tho street, extending from Nguyen Co Thach street to D1 street. It averages 2m in width, narrowing to 1.5m at certain sections, with a maximum speed limit of 20km per hour. The asphalt surface features clear markings, and intersections are painted red for improved visibility and safety.
A key highlight is the lane's complete separation from motorised vehicles, shaded by tree lines to create a secure and pleasant cycling experience. At bus stops, the path routes behind shelters to prevent interference with passengers. Five public bicycle sharing stations have been placed along the route, linked to a mobile app, allowing users to rent bikes and seamlessly integrate with other public transport options like buses and the metro.
Once operational, the project is poised to function not only as transportation infrastructure but also to enhance environmental quality and foster a more civilised urban mobility landscape in Ho Chi Minh City./.
