Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia has affirmed that Indonesia now possesses the world’s second-largest geothermal capacity, after the US, thereby positioning itself as one of the leading global centres of clean energy.
Addressing the 11th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention and Exhibition (IIGCE) 2025, Lahadalia said Indonesia’s installed geothermal capacity stands at 2,744 MW, while the US leads with 3,937 MW. The archipelago’s total geothermal potential and reserves are estimated at 23,742 MW.
Given this strategic advantage, Lahadalia said Indonesia is open to collaboration with international partners to promote the shift toward renewable energy.
He welcomed opportunities to exchange technology, expertise, and best practices to drive the clean energy revolution for a stronger economy and a sustainable future.
Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation Eniya Listiani Dewi noted that the government has developed a full policy package to speed up geothermal development.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Indonesian Geothermal Association (INAGA) Julfi Hadi highlighted geothermal energy’s reliability, calling it the only renewable source capable of operating continuously with a capacity factor exceeding 90%. This makes geothermal the backbone of a sustainable energy system, he said.
Held at Jakarta Convention Centre (JCC) Senayan, IIGCE 2025 also marked the launch of the Indonesia Geothermal Excellence Centre. The event featured over 150 companies, international investment forums, and delegates from 22 countries./.
