Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia hopes to comprehensively deepen its strategic cooperation with China in areas such as politics, economy, science and technology, said President Prabowo Subianto while hosting China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defence Minister Dong Jun in Jakarta on August 21, the Indonesian news agency Antara reported.
President Prabowo welcomed the growing number of Chinese companies investing and doing business in Indonesia, and pledged to continue creating a favourable business environment for them.
He appreciated the role and the outcomes of the inaugural Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue and the second 2+2 meeting.
Commenting on bilateral ties, the President said the relationship between Indonesia and China is founded on mutual respect. He shared that he plans to attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Shenzhen this November, with a view to further strengthening strategic exchanges and coordination with China.
For his part, Wang said that under the leadership of President Prabowo, Indonesia has overcome numerous challenges in recent years and entered a period of rapid national development.
Highlighting the two countries’ strong complementary advantages, he affirmed that China is a reliable, long-term and stable partner of Indonesia in the national development process./.
Indonesia, China strengthen economic, defence-security cooperation
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi co-chaired the CSD, a new ministerial-level bilateral dialogue mechanism established during Sugiono’s visit to China in April 2025. The mechanism aims to review cooperation outcomes and identify strategic priorities for bilateral relations.
