- Party General Secretary To Lam hosted a reception in Hanoi on January 14 for outgoing Cambodian Ambassador Chea Kimtha, believing that Cambodia would continue enjoying peace, stability and prosperous development.

Expressing delight at the progress of Vietnam - Cambodia ties across various areas, including Party-to-Party, government-to-government, parliamentary and local-level cooperation, General Secretary Lam stressed that their relationship is rooted in a shared history of solidarity, close bonds and mutual sacrifice in pursuit of each country’s peace, stability and development and ASEAN’s common interests. - Achieving the net-zero emissions target is both a challenge and an opportunity to develop the country sustainably, build an independent and self-reliant economy, and deepen international integration, said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on January 14.

Concluding the sixth meeting of the National Steering Committee for implementing Vietnam’s commitments at the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow (COP26), PM Chinh, who is also head of the Steering Committee affirmed the correctness of Vietnam’s strong commitments made at COP26 to jointly acting for net-zero emissions by 2050, fulfilling its mission alongside the global community in combating climate change. - The personnel preparation for the 14th Party Central Committee has been carried out in the principle of democratic centralism and a coordinated, scientific and transparent manner, ensuring a balance between standards and structure, Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu said on January 14.

Tu, who is also head of the organising sub-committee of the 14th National Party Congress, made the affirmation at an international press conference on the congress, scheduled for January 19–25, with the participation of 1,586 delegates representing more than 5.6 million Party members nationwide. - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Vu Hong Thanh on January 14 held a working session with the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien on preparations for the elections of deputies to the 16th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.

According to reports at the meeting, election steering committees have been established in all 45 communes and wards. A 30-member provincial election committee, along with supporting subcommittees, has been formed in accordance with regulations. Read full story

- The sixth ASEAN Digital Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADGSOM) and related meetings took place from January 12 to 14 in Hanoi, within the framework of the 6th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN) being held from January 12–16.

ADGSOM serves as ASEAN’s senior officials-level mechanism in the digital sector, tasked with coordinating, reviewing and preparing substantive inputs for ADGMIN, while monitoring and promoting the implementation of regional digital cooperation programmes and initiatives. Read full story

Press centre for 14th National Party Congress inaugurated

So far, 597 journalists and technicians from 113 domestic media outlets, along with 79 journalists and media assistants from 43 foreign news agencies, overseas Vietnamese media, and political party publications, have registered to cover the congress, marking a significant increase compared to the 13th National Party Congress.

Final review of preparations for 14th National Party Congress

After on-site inspections and reports from relevant units on the implementation of the assigned tasks following the preliminary review on January 13 morning, Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu commended agencies and units for their strong sense of responsibility, close coordination, and timely completion of tasks.
