- Party General Secretary and State President To Lam on July 8 urged Hanoi to accelerate economic growth while improving development quality while chairing at a working session with the municipal Party Committee on the city's socio-economic performance in the first half of 2026 and the implementation of the Politburo's Resolution on Hanoi's development in a new era.

The top leader stressed that rapid growth must go hand in hand with sustainability, better governance and improved quality of life. Read full story

- Prime Minister Le Minh Hung chaired a meeting of the Central Steering Committee on judgment enforcement and the recovery of misappropriated and lost assets in criminal cases in Hanoi on July 8.

During the meeting, committee members, representatives of ministries, agencies, local authorities, and relevant institutions discussed progress made in enforcing court judgments and recovering assets, while identifying challenges and bottlenecks in the enforcement process and in handling recovered assets to settle outstanding debts. - The first extraordinary session of the 16th National Assembly (NA) is tentatively scheduled to take place from August 3 to 24, during which lawmakers are expected to consider 27 agenda items, including the adoption of 20 laws and resolutions, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man has said at the fourth session of the NA Standing Committee in Hanoi on July 8, which reviewed preparations for the extraordinary session.

Stressing the need to ensure the quality of draft laws and resolutions, he urged the Government and drafting agencies to ensure thorough preparation of all submissions, while calling on the NA's Council for Ethnic Affairs and committees to clearly state their views without hesitation, and ensure high-quality verification to contribute to the success of the extraordinary session. - The Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) supports stronger cooperation between Vietnamese and Russian localities as part of efforts to deepen the two countries' Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, NA Vice Chairman Nguyen Doan Anh told Deputy Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of Saint Petersburg Kalganov Vyacheslav Gennadievich at a meeting in Hanoi on July 8.

- The Enjoy Danang Festival 2026 will take place from July 22-26 at Bien Dong (East Sea) Park, tourist beaches and various attractions across the central city of Da Nang, according to the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Vietnamese NA supports stronger local cooperation with Russia

Russia in general and Saint Petersburg in particular attach great importance to strengthening ties with Vietnam, expressing his hope for more exchanges between high-level parliamentary delegations and broader cooperation with Vietnamese localities to further deepen the bilateral relations.

Vietnam extends condolences to China over natural disasters

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President To Lam cabled his condolences to General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping following recent severe rains, flooding, tornadoes and landslides that have caused significant loss of life and property in several localities in China.

Vietnam takes over ASEAN-OSHNET chairmanship at Da Nang meeting

At the meeting, Thailand officially handed over the ASEAN-OSHNET chairmanship to Vietnam, while Brunei assumed the vice chairmanship. Vietnam also transferred its role as the network’s Secretariat, which it had held for the 2023–2026 term, to Brunei for the 2026–2029 period.

Vietnam, Mexico look toward new partnership framework

Vietnam wants to build a substantive and effective relationship and establish a new partnership framework that matches the level of bilateral ties, he said, adding that Vietnam supports Mexico’s efforts to bolster ties with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), thus contributing to peace, cooperation and development between the two regions.

National Assembly Standing Committee convenes fourth session

Chairman Man said the committee will discuss a slate of important issues in preparation for the 16th NA’s first extraordinary session set for early August, review preparations for the second regular session later this year, and take up other matters under its purview.

Vietnamese, Philippine young coast guard officers hold first exchange programme

Former ACV Deputy General Director expelled from Party over serious violations

Reviewing disciplinary proposals involving Party members in the Party organisations of Quang Ninh, Lao Cai, Ca Mau and Dong Thap provinces, as well as ACV, the commission concluded that several officials had shown political, moral and lifestyle degradation and committed violations of Party regulations and State laws.
