– Fighting smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property (IP) violations is an ongoing mission for the entire political system – “a starting point with no end” as Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc, head of the National Steering Committee for Combating Smuggling, Commercial Fraud, and Counterfeit Goods (Steering Committee 39), put it.
Speaking at a nationwide online conference reviewing the committee's work in the first half of 2026 and launching tasks for the rest of the year on July 7, Tuc said efforts to crack down on smuggling and counterfeit goods had helped foster a healthier business environment, maintain social order and strengthen public confidence. – The first exchange programme between young officers of the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) opened in Vietnam’s central city of Da Nang on July 7, marking a new milestone in cooperation between the two countries’ maritime law enforcement forces.
Running until July 10, the programme has brought together young officers from both forces for a series of professional, cultural and community-oriented activities. These include thematic discussions, courtesy calls on leaders of the Vietnam Coast Guard Region 2 Command, visits to the command headquarters and Coast Guard vessel CSB 8002, cultural exchanges in Da Nang, and a charity visit to the SOS Children’s Village Da Nang. – Nearly 400 km of new expressways were put into operation in the first half of 2026, completing the eastern wing of the North – South Expressway and expanding the country's expressway network to 3,345 km, according to the Ministry of Construction.
Chief of the ministry's Office Lam Van Hoang said at a conference on July 7 that 219 km of national highways were built and another 212 km were upgraded in the first six months. Read full story
– Hanoi's Department of Tourism held a ceremony at Noi Bai International Airport on July 7 to welcome the capital's 5 millionth international visitor in 2026.
The guest is Piñas Piñas Maria Del Mar, a Spanish national leading a group of 19 tourists on a 16-day tour of Vietnam. The group departed Madrid on a Qatar Airways flight, transited in Doha and arrived at Noi Bai on the same day. Read full story
– The Ho Chi Minh City High Command said on July 7 that it is coordinating with domestic and foreign agencies and units to collect information and locate burial sites of martyrs who died in the Tan Son Nhat airport attack on the night of January 30 and early morning of January 31, 1968 (the first and second days of the Mau Than Lunar New Year).
Historical documents and domestic and international sources suggest that two mass graves may exist in the western end area of Tan Son Nhat airport, where officers and soldiers sacrificed their lives in the historic battle. Read full story
