- National Assembly
(NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue hosted a reception in Hanoi on May 30 for British
Ambassador to Vietnam Gareth Ward.

Ambassador Gareth congratulated Vietnam on overcoming
difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as its socio-economic activities
have returned to normal. Recently, Vietnam successfully organised the 31st
Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) – the largest regional sport event, which
demonstrates the recovery of Vietnam in particular and other countries in the

- There is no ground to eliminate nuclear power planning,
Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien said on May 30 during the
15th National Assembly (NA)’s third session while explaining deputies’
ideas on canceling plans for a nuclear power construction site in the central
coastal province of Ninh Thuan.
The legislative
body voted on a resolution to suspend the construction of the Ninh Thuan
nuclear power plant, Dien said, stressing that the resolution was to suspend,

- Due to China's
strict zero-COVID policy and disrupted supply chains, more and more German
companies in Asia are looking for alternatives and neighbouring Vietnam has
become a new target, the German weekly business news magazine WirtschaftsWoch wrote
in an article published on May 29.

- The total import
and export value of agro-forestry-aquatic products in the first five months of
2022 has been estimated at 41.3 billion USD, up 8.6 percent year-on-year,
according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
Of the total, export turnover was estimated at 23.2 billion
USD, up 16.8 percent, while imports reach 18.1 billion USD, down 0.3 percent. Read full story
- Vietnam has great
potential to increase fruit exports to the US in the future, said Hoang Trung,
director of the Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture
and Rural Development.

During Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's trip to the US in
early May, Vietnamese businesses accompanying the Prime Minister met US
companies, and the two sides signed many fruit export contracts to the US

- The capital city of
Hanoi welcomed 6.53 million tourists in the first five months of 2022, more
than double the figure in the same period last year.

The city greeted 126,200 foreign visitors, particularly during SEA Games 31 held earlier this May. It earned an estimated 18.9 trillion VND (815.36 million USD) from tourism, doubling the previous year's figure./.Read full story
