Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last night by the Vietnam News Agency.

- National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man hosted an official welcome ceremony in Hanoi on September 30 afternoon for Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and President of the Council of State of Cuba, who is paying an official visit to Vietnam.

In their talks held following the welcome ceremony, the two leaders briefed each other on the situation in each country and recent activities of the two parliaments. They discussed orientations and measures to further consolidate the special friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, National Assemblies and people of Vietnam and Cuba, and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern. - Party General Secretary To Lam, together with members of Hanoi’s delegation of National Assembly (NA) deputies on September 30 met with voters from nine communes, including Soc Son, Da Phuc, Noi Bai, Trung Gia, Kim Anh, and Me Linh, to listen to their opinions ahead of the 10th session of the 15th legislature.

At the meeting, the delegation briefed voters on the agenda of the upcoming session and the settlement of petitions from the previous session. Local voters expressed appreciation for the Party and State’s attention to social welfare through practical policies, and welcomed the decentralisation of authority and effective implementation of the two-tier local government model, which they said has created breakthroughs and enabled stronger local development. - Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong met with President of the National Assembly of People's Power and President of the Council of State of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez in Hanoi on September 30, as part of the latter's official visit to Vietnam until October 5, during which he will co-chair the second session of the Vietnam – Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.

President Cuong warmly welcomed Esteban Lazo’s return to Vietnam, following a recent state visit by First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez. He underscored the significance of the Cuban delegation’s visit and expressed his belief that it would further reinforce the traditional solidarity, special friendship, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the 15th meeting of the National Steering Committee on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, connected online with 21 coastal cities and provinces.

The event, convened just a week after the 14th meeting, underscored the Government’s determination to eliminate IUU practices and secure the removal of the European Commission (EC)’s “yellow card” warning against Vietnam’s seafood exports this year. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered urgent measures to overcome the consequences of heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides triggered by Typhoon Bualoi – the 10th storm to hit the East Sea this year – which has caused severe human and material losses across northern and central provinces.

The Prime Minister on September 30 signed official dispatch No. 181/CD-TTg, directing authorities in the northern mountainous provinces of Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai, as well as Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces, along with relevant ministries, to mobilise all available resources to ensure timely search, rescue, and relief operations. - Vietnam's economy remains resilient to increasing uncertainties and high US tariffs thanks to solid domestic demand, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) said in its September Asian Development Outlook (ADO).

The bank has also revised Vietnam’s economic growth forecast, raising it to 6.7% in 2025 and adjusting to 6.0% in 2026. Inflation projections are slightly below the previous estimates published in April this year. Read full story

- Vietnam and the European Union (EU) have agreed to establish a special task force to address barriers and foster more balanced and effective trade.

The decision was reached at the fourth meeting of the EVFTA Committee, recently held in Hanoi and co-chaired by Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien and EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic. Read full story

- Vice Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Tran Quang Phuong met with Japan’s parliamentary leaders in Tokyo and visited several localities as part of his working trip to the country from September 25-30.

Phuong had meetings with President of the House of Councillors Sekiguchi Masakazu and Speaker of the House of Representatives Nukaga Fukushiro, and held talks with Vice President of the House of Councillors Fukuyama Tetsuro, and Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives Genba Koichiro. He also engaged with leaders of the Japan–Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance, including its Chairman Obuchi Yuko, Vice Chairman Yoichiro Aoyagi, and Honourary Adviser Nikai Toshihiro. NA Chairman attends rehearsal for fourth Dien Hong awards

More than 10 months after the competition’s launch, the organising board received 3,508 entries from 125 media outlets nationwide. After initial screening, 659 works proceeded to preliminary judging, from which a preliminary jury selected 91 entries for the final round. The final jury ultimately selected 64 works for awards.

PM directs tasks to boost economic growth

To fully realise the 2025 socio-economic development plan, while creating momentum for 2026, PM Pham Minh Chinh urged ministers, heads of ministry-level agencies, and chairpersons of People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to strictly follow resolutions of the Party, the National Assembly and the Government, along with the Prime Minister’s directives.

State President outlines key directions for strengthening national defence
