Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group (Petrovietnam) has issued its science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation strategy through 2030, with a vision to 2050, to improve competitiveness, positioning science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as key drivers of the group’s sustainable growth.
The strategy clearly identifies science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as the group’s top breakthroughs and primary drivers for enhancing productivity, quality, efficiency, and competitiveness.
Petrovietnam’s technological capacity and innovation capability are expected to reach regional advanced levels in multiple key sectors, with some areas achieving international standards. Science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation will become new growth drivers, helping the group achieve sustainable double-digit growth, toward ranking among the world’s top 500 companies.
The strategy also outlines a vision toward 2050, in which all of the group’s operations will be digital-based, the research and innovation programme will meet international standards, and Petrovietnam will master technologies in key sectors while operating business models built on advanced technology, artificial intelligence, clean energy, and data-driven value chains.
A key aspect of the strategy is the organisational and operational model of Petrovietnam’s innovation ecosystem. This model focuses on a business-centred approach, with research institutes and universities acting as the scientific drivers. Meanwhile, the parent company plays a coordinating role, shaping the mechanisms and policies that guide the ecosystem.
Accordingly, a science, technology, innovation, and training centre will serve as the intellectual core, connecting the entire system, consolidating existing research activities, and ensuring long-term research orientation alongside training high-quality human resources.
The science and technology development strategy is designed to be integrated, interconnected, and focused on key priorities and sectors, linking value chains and fields. It is coordinated centrally by the group’s parent company.
At member units, dedicated technology application hubs will be established to implement new technologies and innovations in production, conduct testing and evaluation, and expand successful solutions. These hubs will also manage intellectual property, promote the commercialisation of Petrovietnam-branded technological products to generate additional value for the group.
The strategy also aims to complete a unified data platform and develop digital infrastructure and big data systems in all areas, from oil and gas exploration and production to the gas, petrochemical, power, and renewable energy sectors.
Investments in digital technologies and cybersecurity are to be implemented in a synchronised and modern manner, with continuous upgrades and updates.
Efforts have been made to maximise the potential and intelligence of the workforce. This includes quickly mastering and applying advanced scientific and technological achievements on a global scale. The approach involves proactively adopting and leveraging smart technologies and artificial intelligence, while also strengthening applied research and maintaining a focus on fundamental studies. The goal is to excel and compete in key technological areas where the organisation has specific demands.
The implementation of the strategy is seen as a powerful motivation for Petrovietnam to achieve breakthroughs on its new development path. Accordingly, Petrovietnam and its member units are required to invest at least 2% of consolidated revenue annually in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. In parallel, the company aims to attract and retain high-quality talent, establish training and recruitment mechanisms for leading experts, and develop specialised programmes in AI, digital management, and data science.
The strategy also emphasises embracing risk in research and development, encouraging creative experimentation, implementing technology venture investment models, and expanding partnerships with universities, research institutes, and domestic and foreign technology companies, focusing on developing infrastructure, especially digital and information technology infrastructure.
Petrovietnam is focused on renewing its mindset, raising awareness, and building a culture of innovation while promoting learning, creativity, and renewal among staff. The issuance of the strategy represents a strategic step for the group in its development model, laying the foundation of knowledge, technology, and human capital to lead the nation’s energy transition process./.
