Hanoi (VNA) – After days of deliberations for the nation’s future, the 14th National Party Congress concluded with great success, leaving a profound imprint of the spirit of “Solidarity – Democracy – Discipline – Breakthrough – Development,” crystallising the intellect, aspiration for progress, and strong determination of the Party, the people, and the armed forces.
Building on the country’s current standing, the 14th National Party Congress charted the path to safeguard a stable environment, pursue sustainable development, improve living standards, strengthen strategic autonomy, self-reliance, and move resolutely forward into a new era. It also aims to successfully realise the goal of becoming a developing country with modern industry and upper-middle income by 2030, and a developed, high-income nation by 2045.
In his closing address at the congress, Party General Secretary To Lam reaffirmed the principle that “the people are the root,” while calling for the consolidation of the close bond between the Party and the people.
He emphasised that the effectiveness of Party organisations and the political system must be measured by the people. He urged political will to be translated into concrete actions and policies into tangible outcomes.
The leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam also expressed confidence that, with the major decisions adopted at the congress, Party solidarity, and with the strength of the people and the great national unity bloc, the country would implement the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress. These goals include building a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, and happy Vietnam, which is steadfastly advancing on the path of socialism.
Advancing comprehensive international integration
Entering a new phase of development, the Report of the 13th Party Central Committee on documents submitted to the 14th National Party Congress underscores the imperative of further strengthening the “Posture of the people’s heart.” This solid posture is the bedrock of robust national defence and security, and the driving force that ensures reforms are carried through to completion. When society’s confidence is firm, difficulties can be overcome and challenges resolved.
General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of National Defence, emphasised that building a revolutionary, elite, and modern People’s Army is the core force in strengthening national defence, and ensures the country strides confidently forward in the new era.
This strategic vision reflects the consistent view that national defence and security are inseparable from the people. Consolidating public trust not only fortifies the nation’s internal strength but also creates a stable foundation for more substantive international integration.
In addition, the Minister highlighted the need to advance international integration and diplomacy, and step up bilateral and multilateral exchanges, training, and joint exercises in addressing non-traditional security challenges. He underscored the importance of taking advantage of international cooperation to facilitate technology transfer and access to advanced resources. This helps in building a modern military to safeguard a peaceful environment for national development, protecting the Fatherland early and from afar.
At an international press conference following the closing of the 14th National Party Congress, in response to a question from a correspondent of Pravda, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of Russia, Party General Secretary To Lam stated that Vietnam has elevated the role of international relations and foreign affairs to a new level of strategic importance, on par with defence and security tasks.
Accordingly, defence, security, and foreign affairs are now defined as core missions. This marks a notable departure from previous congress documents and resolutions, as these pillars were not positioned with the same degree of prominence./.
