Hanoi (VNA) – Military academies and educational institutions of Vietnam and China should strengthen education on the tradition of good neighbourliness and friendship between the two countries, said General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence.
Cuong made the remarks in Hanoi on July 13 while receiving a visiting delegation from China's National Defence University, led by Major General Liu Kai, director of its political department.
At the meeting, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to consolidating and developing its friendly neighbourliness and Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership with the Party, Government, people, and military of China. He expressed hope that both sides would continue to promote their solidarity and traditional friendship, elevating bilateral cooperation across all fields.
Cuong stressed that bilateral defence cooperation has consistently been identified as one of the key pillars of Vietnam–China relations. The two sides have achieved substantive results in such areas as high-level exchanges and contacts, consultation and dialogue mechanisms, cooperation between military agencies, units, services, and academies, coordination in border management, United Nations peacekeeping, human resource training, and defence industry development.
He noted that the regular exchange of delegations of military officers and cadets for study visits and practical research reflects the importance both sides attach to strengthening cooperation. These exchanges provide valuable opportunities to share experience and enhance friendship, mutual understanding, and trust. The leadership of Vietnam's Central Military Commission and Ministry of National Defence, Cuong added, has consistently supported this important area of cooperation.
For his part, Liu said the visit demonstrates the close friendship and cooperation between the two countries and their armies.
Speaking highly of Vietnam–China relations, in which defence ties remain a key pillar, he proposed the two sides continue to preserve and develop cooperation between their defence ministries across a wide range of fields, including delegation and professional exchanges at all levels./.
