Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.
- Continuing its first extraordinary session, the 16th National Assembly discussed policy orientations for amending the Law on Real Estate Business in Hanoi on August 22.
Deputy Nguyen Thi Viet Nga from Hai Phong city called for a unified minimum standard to protect buyers of off-plan real estate under both the Law on Real Estate Business and the Law on Housing, while controlling cash flows even before properties become eligible for sale. Read full text
- The official visit to Vietnam by President of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire Patrick Achi from August 23-26 is expected to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and promote economic and trade ties, contributing to more substantive and sustainable development of bilateral friendship.
The visit comes short after the two countries celebrated the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations (October 6, 1975 - 2025), and reflects their determination to open a new chapter in bilateral ties, particularly in parliamentary and economic-trade cooperation. Read full text
- Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang and her Russian counterpart Andrey Rudenko agreed on measures to deepen the Vietnam – Russia comprehensive strategic partnership in the new period while co-chairing a deputy foreign ministerial-level political consultation in Moscow on August 21, held as part of the cooperation plan between the two foreign ministries.
The two sides reviewed bilateral relations since the previous consultation in Hanoi in February 2025 and discussed concrete orientations and measures to address difficulties and promote cooperation between the two countries and their foreign ministries. - Vietnam's exports are gaining fresh momentum from a recovery in production, rising year-end orders and relatively strong international demand, with total trade exceeding 712 billion USD after more than seven months.
The positive outlook has raised expectations that key export sectors, including electronics, textiles and garments, wood products and agricultural goods, will continue to expand and help sustain double-digit export growth in 2026. Read full text
- Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s economic hub and a key base for armed and law-enforcement forces in the southern waters, is stepping up efforts to implement the strategic vision of building Vietnam into a strong maritime nation under Resolution No. 20-NQ/TW of the 14th Party Central Committee, helping safeguard national sovereignty and promote sustainable development.
The resolution marks a shift from focusing primarily on the maritime economy to viewing the sea as an economic, strategic and living space, requiring close coordination between development, defence, security, foreign affairs and modern maritime governance. Read full text
- Storm Narra, the fourth to hit the East Sea this year, brought strong winds and heavy rains to northern Vietnam on early August 22, with some areas forecast to receive more than 500mm of rain as the storm moves slowly over the northern waters of the East Sea.
According to the National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, early on August 22, strong winds of level 8 (62-74 km/h), with gusts up to level 9, were recorded at Bach Long Vi special zone in Hai Phong city, while winds reached level 6, with gusts up to level 9, in Co To special zone in Quang Ninh province. - Northern Vietnam is bracing for a tropical depression that strengthened into this year’s fourth storm over the Gulf of Tonkin on August 21 evening, prompting Ninh Binh and Hung Yen provinces to impose a sea ban before 5:00 on August 22.
Meanwhile, Quang Ninh has seen continuous moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy downpours in some areas, since August 20, according to the provincial hydro-meteorological station./. Read full text
