Cambodia, Thailand to convene General Border Committee's meeting on August 4

The Cambodian news agency quoted Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, as saying that the Royal Government of Cambodia and its armed forces have remained fully committed to implementing all terms of the ceasefire agreement.

Phnom Penh (VNA) - Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Gen. Tea Seiha will co-chair with his Thai counterpart the General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting scheduled to be held in Cambodia on August 4, the Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) reported.

The Cambodian news agency quoted Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, as saying that the Royal Government of Cambodia and its armed forces have remained fully committed to implementing all terms of the ceasefire agreement, which include complete cessation of all hostilities, no mobilisation or deployment of additional troops, both armies' maintenance of positions from midnight July 28, and establishment of working groups to serve as communications channels.

Maly Socheata highlighted several positive outcomes as a result of the ceasefire, noting that it has been effectively enforced and maintained in a peaceful manner. She emphasised that both Cambodian and Thai armed forces have demonstrated mutual respect and cooperation in adhering to the terms agreed upon at a recent regional meeting. The officer also said that Malaysia, the current ASEAN Chair, has played a vital and proactive role by dispatching a high-level delegation to Cambodia on July 29.

Leaders of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence, along with a delegation comprising foreign diplomats, military attachés and relevant stakeholders, visited the Cambodian-Thai border on July 30 to observe the situation firsthand. This delegation, led by Lt. Gen. Rath Dararath, Secretary of State for the Ministry of National Defence, includes representatives from 13 countries, she added./.
