Phnom Penh (VNA) - A meeting was held in Phom Penh on June 28 to mark the 74th founding anniversary of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) (June 28, 1951 – 2025).
Addressing the event, CPP President Hun Sen reflected on the party’s history and evolution. Originally established as the Kampuchean People's Revolutionary Party on June 28,1951, the CPP was born out of Cambodia’s struggle for national independence, and stood shoulder to shoulder in solidarity with the liberation movements of Vietnam and Laos against colonialism.
Over the past 74 years, the CPP has consistently stood as the sole political force that has remained closely aligned with the Cambodian people, united in both hardship and progress. Guided by its enduring ideals, the party has mobilised the strength of the entire population, regardless of ethnicity, gender, language, religion, political orientation, background, or social status, towards the goal of building a Cambodia that is independent, peaceful, free, democratic, neutral, and socially progressive.
Following the historic victory over the genocidal regime on January 7, 1979, the CPP has led Cambodia along a political path that reflects the aspirations of its people and the realities on the ground. This direction has yielded meaningful and far-reaching achievements across all sectors in the effort to rebuild and safeguard the nation. It has brought peace, dignity, and prosperity to the Cambodian people, while also helping to heal the deep wounds and painful legacy of the past./.
