Viet made the remarks on March 31 while addressing the “Women Breaking Barriers” event, jointly organised by RISE, the Spotlight Initiative, the Permanent Missions of Vietnam, Sweden and Uruguay to the UN to mark the conclusion of “Women’s History Month”.

He also shared Vietnam’s notable achievements in promoting gender equality as well as protecting and supporting victims of gender-based violence.

In her remarks via a pre-recorded message, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed emphasised that despite significant progress, no country has yet achieved full gender equality. Ambassadors and Heads of Delegations from Sweden, Uruguay, and the European Union also shared a range of experiences and initiatives to advance women’s rights, enhance women’s participation in leadership positions, and underscored the importance of sustaining achievements in the face of current challenges.

Through inspiring remarks by speakers - successful and influential women in the fields of science, technology, media, sports, and the arts, the event helped affirm the role, potential, and contributions of women across all sectors. It also reaffirmed the international community’s commitment to eliminating all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls, thereby promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls worldwide./.
