- The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on April 2 reviewed a report on results of the supervision programme for 2025 and early 2026 while weighing the proposed oversight agenda for 2027.
According to the report, supervision efforts have grown more flexible and responsive to real-world conditions, particularly amid the apparatus restructuring and the shift to a two-tier local administration model, as well as progress in the implementation of the Politburo’s strategic resolutions. - Promoting gender equality is a shared responsibility of society as a whole, requiring the participation of both men and women through concrete and sustained actions to build a safe, fair, and enabling environment for women and girls, Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, has said.
Viet made the remarks on March 31 while addressing the “Women Breaking Barriers” event, jointly organised by RISE, the Spotlight Initiative, the Permanent Missions of Vietnam, Sweden and Uruguay to the UN to mark the conclusion of “Women’s History Month”. Read full story
- The Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF)’s destroyer JS Asahi docked at Tien Sa Port on April 2, beginning a four-day goodwill visit to the central city of Da Nang.
The ship, carrying more than 200 officers and crew members, is led by Colonel Jio Takemasa, Commander of JMSDF Escort Flotilla Two. Read full story
- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has issued a dispatch directing ministries, sectors and localities to accelerate the development of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in urban areas and apartment buildings.
Dispatch No. 27/CD-TTg, dated March 31, 2026, highlights that the transition to electric transport is an inevitable trend aligned with the country’s goals on green growth, digitalisation and energy transition. However, the development of charging stations, parking facilities and battery-swapping points in residential areas remains limited and inconsistent. Many urban projects lack adequate parking planning to meet EV charging demand, placing pressure on internal power systems and raising concerns over fire safety. Read full story
- Vietnam’s telecommunications carriers are racing to expand the 5G coverage, commercialise services effectively, and lay the groundwork for 6G, a roadmap seen as essential to sustaining the country’s digital transformation.
According to the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority (VNTA) under the Ministry of Science and Technology, after more than a year of 5G deployment, Vietnam had installed nearly 40,000 base transceiver stations as of February 2026, covering about 90% of the population and serving close to 23 million subscribers. - Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) reported 8,143 vehicles sold in March 2026, marking a twofold increase from the previous month, driven largely by strong momentum in hybrid models, the company announced on April 2.
