- The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee has urged the Government to remain vigilant against mounting macroeconomic risks, including inflationary pressures, volatile energy prices, a potential shift toward a trade deficit, slow public investment disbursement, and uncertainties in financial, monetary and gold markets, while calling for updated policy scenarios to safeguard growth and stability.

At its 56th session on April 1, the NA Standing Committee reviewed the Government’s reports on the implementation of the 2025 socio-economic development plan, early 2026 performance, and the proposed five-year plan for 2026–2030. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko in Hanoi on April 1 to promote the implementation of the outcomes of his recent official visit to Russia, especially agreements aimed at ensuring energy security in the current context.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked for disaster prevention and control to be firmly aligned with Vietnam’s two centennial strategic goals, stressing a proactive and people-centred approach as the country faces increasingly complex and extreme natural hazards.

Chairing a hybrid national conference on disaster response as head of the National Civil Defence Steering Committee in Hanoi on April 1, the PM highlighted the increasingly complex and extreme nature of natural disasters, warning that they pose mounting risks to lives, infrastructure and socio-economic development.Read full story

- The Lao Government and the Laos–Vietnam Railway Co. Ltd have officially signed a concession agreement for the design, construction, capital mobilisation, operation and maintenance of the Laos–Vietnam railway project, covering the section from Thakhek town in Khammouane province, central Laos, to the Mu Gia border area in Vietnam's former Quang Binh province (now Quang Tri).

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Vientiane on March 31, Lao Minister of Public Works and Transport Leklay Sivilay affirmed that the railway project is a key national one that will help Laos realise Resolution No. 04 of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party on building an independent and self-reliant economy. The project also contributes to the implementation of the country’s 10th five-year national socio-economic development plan, particularly the goal of strengthening regional and global integration to facilitate production, services, trade and investment. - Vietnam should focus on four key priorities to ensure energy security while achieving rapid and sustainable growth, said Associate Professor Duong Thi Hong Lien, Vice President for ESG and Sustainability at the Vietnam-Australia Scholars and Experts Association (VASEA).

- In the first three months, more than 25,000 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease have been recorded nationwide, including four fatalities, an official revealed at a workshop held by the Department of Medical Service Administration under the Ministry of Health in Hanoi on April 1.

The event, which provided guidance on the diagnosis and treatment of the disease and linked the ministry with more than 300 hospitals nationwide, heard that of the total cases, around 18,000, or nearly 72%, were concentrated in southern provinces. New regulation on political, ideological work in Party highlighted at national conference

The regulation, adopted at the second plenum of the 14th Party Central Committee and issued as Regulation No. 19-QD/TW on April 8, 2026, marks the first comprehensive and systematic framework governing political and ideological work in the Party. Resolution 05 introduces a number of breakthrough viewpoints, positioning inspection and supervision as one of the Party’s most critical leadership functions.
