Hanoi (VNA) - Tran Phong, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the central province of Khanh Hoa, and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, has received the Politburo's decision approving him as Secretary of the Khanh Hoa Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term.

Le Minh Hung, member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and Chairman of the Party Central Committee's Organisation Commission, handed over the decision to Phong at a ceremony in Hanoi on April 2.

According to the decision, dated March 30, Phong will also join the Party Committee of the Military Region 5.

Phong replaced Nghiem Xuan Thanh, who was elected as a member of the Party Central Committee's Inspection Commission at the Party Central Committee's second meeting, serving as the commission's Vice Chairman for 2026-2031.

Born in 1974 in Quang Phuong commune, Quang Trach district of former Quang Binh province (now part of Quang Tri province), Phong holds a master’s degree in Economics.

From November 2025, he worked as the Chairman of the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee. At the 14th National Party Congress, he was elected a member of the Party Central Committee.

Hung called on members of the Khanh Hoa Party Committee and local leaders to uphold unity and support Phong in leading the province to successfully implement the resolutions of the provincial Party Congress and the 14th National Party Congress, continuing to drive stronger development in Khanh Hoa.

He urged them to thoroughly implement the 14th National Party Congress resolution and associated action programmes, review and refine these programmes, and ensure concrete implementation.

He emphasised the Politburo and Secretariat’s guidance on inspection and supervision from the start of the term. Inspection teams will monitor performance in achieving double-digit growth, implementing the two-tier local government system, and executing Politburo Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.

This task is vital for Party organisations across the political system, including top leaders. Newly issued directives must be translated into specific actions, with clear responsibilities assigned to local authorities to resolve obstacles in projects, mobilise resources for socio-economic development, strengthen Party and political system integrity, and implement Party General Secretary To Lam’s instructions to improve the quality of grassroots cadres.

Hung noted that the mid-2026 review of the first year of two-tier local government operation will be part of the second-round inspection, identifying challenges for resolution to raise the quality of commune- and ward-level cadres.
He also highlighted the need for Khanh Hoa to link economic development with national defence, security, political stability, and sovereignty protection, while focusing on foreign affairs and international integration.

In his response, Phong pledged to continue striving to meet the expectations of the Party Central Committee, the provincial Party Committee, local authorities, and the people of Khanh Hoa./.
