Legal proceedings launched against 47 individuals in case involving National Power Transmission Corporation

Hanoi (VNA) - The Ministry of Public Security has launched legal proceedings against 47 individuals in connection with violations related to the 500kV circuit-3 transmission line project at the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), a subsidiary of the Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

At a press briefing in Hanoi on July 2, Major General Le Van Tan, Deputy Chief of the Office of the ministry's Investigation Police Agency (C01), said investigators identified violations in cost estimation, bidding, contractor selection, project acceptance and settlement by the investor and contractors.

Additionally, investigators uncovered multiple other violations by contractors during project execution and business operations, including serious violations of bidding and accounting regulations, embezzlement, and the giving and receiving of bribes.

The case involves EVNNPT, the northern and central power project management boards, some contractors and consulting firms.

Investigators have seized more than 45.8 billion VND (1.74 million USD) and over 1 million USD, while freezing securities accounts belonging to the individuals worth about 1.756 trillion VND (66.79 million USD) to facilitate asset recovery.

At the press briefing, the ministry also announced the prosecution of 31 individuals in a separate case involving the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) on charges of bidding violations, offering bribes and accepting bribes.

Those indicted include ACV Chairman of the Board of Directors Vu The Phiet and Deputy General Director and member of the Board of Directors Nguyen Tien Viet.

Authorities are continuing to expand the investigation./.

Vietnam issues new rules governing foreign media activities

Under Decree No. 262/2026/ND-CP, which took effect on July 1, all press activities by foreign media agencies, foreign representative offices, and foreign organisations in Vietnam must receive approval from the competent authorities and comply with Vietnamese law. They are also required to coordinate with provincial-level People's Committees where reporting activities take place.

No exceptions for foreign visitors violating law: Officials

According to provincial police, 16 traffic accidents involving foreign nationals have been recorded since the beginning of the year, resulting in three deaths and 16 injuries. Investigations concluded that foreign nationals were directly at fault in six of the cases.

Hanoi rolls out 2,460 more AI surveillance cameras

The system comprises 1,107 cameras for detecting traffic violations, 960 for vehicle flow monitoring, 112 for intersection monitoring, 251 pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras and 30 for detecting speed violations. A total of 930 camera poles have been installed at 238 major intersections, gateways and urban areas across the capital.
