Malaysia sees neutrality as lever to attract foreign investment

PM Anwar said Malaysia's ability to maintain cordial relations with diverse partners has helped attract investments and create new opportunities for economic expansion.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated on June 20 that the Southeast Asian nation’s decision not to align itself with any geopolitical bloc is proving to be a key competitive advantage.

As reported by the New Straits Times, PM Anwar said the country’s active engagement with major global powers reflects its commitment to a balanced foreign policy that prioritises national interests while remaining open to international cooperation.

Malaysia's diplomatic approach has translated into tangible economic gains and strengthened international confidence in the country, he noted.

In his speech at the grand opening ceremony of MKS Inc Super Centre in Penang, the PM said Malaysia's ability to maintain cordial relations with diverse partners has helped attract investments and create new opportunities for economic expansion. The approach reflects Malaysia’s effort to maintain strategic flexibility in an increasingly competitive global environment, using balanced international relations to support long-term economic growth and development.

He cited recent engagements with the US, China, India, Russia and regional countries as evidence of Malaysia's growing relevance on the global stage.

PM Anwar said confidence shown by global investors is reflected in continued commitments from multinational corporations, including those in high-value sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing./.
