Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia removed 457,562 online gambling-related content and blocked 1,778 gambling websites from the beginning of 2025 to the end of May 2026.

The Ministry of Communications said the figure accounted for 98% of the 467,772 content removal requests identified through proactive monitoring by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), as well as official requests from law enforcement agencies.

The MCMC has continued supporting law enforcement efforts against illegal gambling by assisting investigations and blocking related websites under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and the Online Safety Act 2025.

Meanwhile, from January 1, 2022 to the end of June 2026, the MCMC submitted 275,787 requests for the removal of scam-related content, including fake accounts and impersonation. Service providers removed 262,293 posts, equivalent to 95% of the total requests, based on user complaints and relevant regulations.

For financial fraud covered by the Online Safety Act 2025, five content removal requests were made in the first half of this year, all of which were acted upon.

The Ministry of Communications said the government's comprehensive approach to combating online scams continues to be strengthened through the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) and the Safe Internet Campaign. To date, the campaign has reached 10,303 schools and higher education institutions nationwide./.
