Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Science and Technology on February 6 announced the results of the selection of outstanding achievements and events in the fields of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation in 2025.

The selected achievements and events reflect the increasingly important role of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation in improving institutions, promoting socio-economic development, ensuring national defence and security, and enhancing Vietnam’s position amid deep international integration. The following are the nine outstanding achievements and events:

1. The National Assembly's adoption of ten laws in science, technology, innovation and digital transformation

At the 9th and 10th sessions of the 15th National Assembly, ten laws related to science, technology, innovation and digital transformation were passed, creating a comprehensive and coherent legal foundation for the development of these fields. The new legal framework covers many key technology areas and strongly institutionalises major Party guidelines, particularly Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo. This is regarded as a breakthrough in institutional reform, removing long-standing bottlenecks, creating a legal corridor for new growth drivers, promoting the digital economy and digital society, and enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of state management.

2. The national exhibition of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation achievements and issuance of stamp sets marking major national events

Held on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day, the exhibition retraced the 80 years of science, technology and digital transformation in close connection with the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. With a storytelling approach that combines technology, data, images and artefacts, the exhibition presented a modern and vivid display, helping raise public awareness and inspire innovation. At the same time, the issuance of commemorative stamp sets continued to spread historical and political values and highlight the role of science and technology in national development.

3. The restart of the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project

The restart of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project marked an important shift in national energy policy. Nuclear power is identified as a stable, large-capacity, low-emission baseload energy source, contributing to energy security, environmental security and the fulfilment of commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The event also opens up new development space for nuclear science, high technology, high-quality human resource training, and enhanced international cooperation in the energy sector.

4. The mastery of design and manufacturing technology for armoured vehicles using domestic technology

Vietnam successfully researched, designed and manufactured the XCB-01 and XTC-02 armoured vehicles using domestic technology for the first time, with a high localisation rate and the integration of many modern technologies. This achievement affirms Vietnam’s self-reliance in defence technology, enabling the army to proactively equip itself, reduce dependence on imports and cut costs. It also provides an important foundation for developing high-tech defence products in the future.

5. The mastery and successful application of new-generation DNA identification technology, NGS–SNP

Vietnam has for the first time mastered the technological process of new-generation DNA identification using NGS–SNP, increasing DNA extraction efficiency from 22% to 80% and enabling analysis of severely degraded DNA samples. This technology opens up the possibility of large-scale identification of fallen soldiers’ remains, towards the goal of identifying tens of thousands of martyrs in the coming period. The achievement carries profound scientific significance while also demonstrating humane values and social responsibility in paying tribute to those who sacrificed for the nation.

6. Nationwide 5G coverage in service of digital transformation and national defence and security

In 2025, the 5G network was deployed nationwide with more than 22,400 base stations, becoming a key digital infrastructure for national digital transformation. With high speed and low latency, 5G provides a foundation for promoting technology applications in education, healthcare, smart manufacturing, intelligent transport and online public services. At the same time, it is a dual-use infrastructure that effectively meets socio-economic development needs while ensuring national defence and security.

7. The research, production and international commercialisation of the AVAC ASF LIVE African swine fever vaccine

AVAC ASF LIVE is among the world’s first commercial African swine fever vaccines. It was researched and developed by Vietnam. By 2025, more than four million doses had been supplied domestically and nearly one million doses exported to several international markets. This achievement contributes to effective disease control, recovery of livestock production, and reduction of economic losses, and affirms Vietnam’s research and innovation capacity in veterinary vaccines.

8. The mastery and commercialisation of two specialised fuel lines, Jet A-1K and DO L-62

Mastering the entire chain of research, production and commercialisation of the specialised fuels Jet A-1K and DO L-62 has enabled Vietnam to replace imports, ensuring energy security and national defence. This achievement demonstrates domestic enterprises’ capability to master strategic technologies, while opening up a dual-use research and development model in the oil and gas sector with long-term strategic significance.

9. Hanoi Convention – a global milestone in the fight against cybercrime

Vietnam’s hosting of the signing ceremony of the UN Convention against Cybercrime (Hanoi Convention) marked an important step forward in international integration on cybersecurity. The event affirmed Vietnam’s proactive and responsible role in building global standards and cooperation mechanisms to prevent and combat cybercrime. At the same time, the Hanoi Convention provides momentum for Vietnam to continue improving its legal framework and promoting the development of technologies to ensure cyber safety and security amid an increasingly deep digital transformation./.
