Quang Tri (VNA) – The Kim Ngan Forest Protection Station under the Quang Tri provincial Sub-department of Forest Protection has received two endangered brown hornbills from a local resident to transfer them to Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park for care and eventual release into the wild.
The birds had earlier flown into the home of Ho Va Li, a resident of Ha Lec village in Kim Ngan commune. Realising that they might be a rare species, he promptly informed the authorities and voluntarily handed them over in accordance with regulations.
According to the Kim Ngan Forest Protection Station, the two hornbills have been identified as Anorrhinus austeni, a species listed in Group IB, endangered and precious forest animals subject to strict protection. They have been sent to the park’s rescue and conservation centre for care and rehabilitation before being released into their natural habitat once their health is fully restored.
Quang Tri has recently witnessed growing community awareness and engagement in forest and wildlife protection in recent years. Increasingly, residents have voluntarily turned in wild and rare animals to local authorities, helping foster a positive and responsible attitude toward nature conservation./.
