Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam will hold its first-ever public auction of two-character “.vn” domain names in 2026, marking a significant step in unlocking the value of scarce national digital assets.

The Vietnam Internet Network Information Centre (VNNIC), operating under the Ministry of Science and Technology, said the auctions will be conducted in two rounds, slated for March and June.

50 two-character “.vn” domains will be offered in the first round via online bidding sessions from March 18 to 20. Each domain will carry a starting price of 10 million VND (383 USD), excluding VAT and other statutory taxes and fees.

VNNIC described two-character domains in the national “.vn” namespace as a rare and finite resource, prized for their brevity, memorability and strong branding potential. The upcoming auction features a diverse portfolio grouped by brand relevance, industry focus and digital culture appeal.

One category includes domains linked to well-known brand initials such as mb.vn, lg.vn, hc.vn, cj.vn, jd.vn and jt.vn, seen as strategic assets for brand protection and digital expansion.

Another group highlights sector-oriented names such as ot.vn (automobile), dd.vn (mobile), fa.vn (finance), gc.vn (golf) and ex.vn (import-export), offering clear advantages for industry-specific branding.

A third cluster taps into social and digital trends, with domains like 2k.vn, ok.vn, hi.vn, f0.vn, ez.vn and em.vn – short, catchy combinations with high viral potential online.

Meanwhile, ultra-compact letter–number combinations including p1.vn, j2.vn, t7.vn and g8.vn are expected to appeal to technology firms and long-term digital investors seeking modern, distinctive identifiers.

The open auction is designed to maximise the efficient use of national Internet resources while ensuring transparency and equal access for businesses and investors pursuing unique digital identities in the “.vn” ecosystem.

The initiative underscores Vietnam’s broader strategy to elevate the value and competitiveness of its national domain, empower enterprises to strengthen their digital brands, and accelerate the development of the country’s digital economy infrastructure./.
