Hanoi (VNA) - Nearly 10,400 people have been evacuated to 24 temporary shelters in southern Myanmar after severe flooding struck Hpa-an town in Kayin state, pushing the Thanlwin river above dangerous levels.
According to Myanmar’s Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, water levels in Hpa-an rose 1.8 metres above the danger threshold and was expected to remain at this level for at least another day.
Authorities in Kayin state, together with donors, are providing essential supplies, while the Ministry of Health is delivering medical care and treatment to the affected residents./.
