Vietnam’s pivotal resolutions powering growth

Rome (VNA) – The affirmation of the rule of law, the promotion of innovation in science and technology, deeper international integration and the development of the private sector are pillar resolutions underpinning Vietnam’s current era of growth, said Giulio Chinappi, Asia regional director of Italian publisher Anteo Edizioni.

Speaking to Vietnam News Agency correspondents in Rome, Chinappi said these measures, reflecting a far-sighted vision, align closely with the strategic direction set by the Communist Party of Vietnam

He remarked that Vietnam is successfully building an independent, self-reliant economy, marked by notable achievements in industrialisation and modernisation. The country has emerged as one of the fastest-growing new economies and an increasingly attractive destination for international investors.

On the social front, Vietnam has achieved significant progress in poverty reduction, social security and public welfare – milestones recognised by the United Nations. The country met its commitments to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015, completing five out of eight ahead of schedule, particularly in poverty alleviation, universal education, healthcare and women’s empowerment. It now ranks among the leaders in implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to Chinappi, Vietnam has consolidated political and social stability, laying the foundations for a future in which every citizen enjoys their full rights and contributes to collective welfare and national prosperity. He stressed that the pillars of the rule of law, scientific and technological innovation, global integration and private-sector growth represent a holistic vision entirely in step with the Party’s strategic orientation.

International integration has been one of Vietnam’s most remarkable diplomatic and economic achievements of recent decades. From joining ASEAN, APEC, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the country has positioned itself firmly in global value chains. Its active role in UN peacekeeping missions and strategic partnerships with major powers have further bolstered its reputation as a reliable and peace-loving nation.

Chinappi noted that the rise of the private economic sector – now recognised as a strategic driver of growth – marks another milestone in Vietnam’s Doi Moi (renewal) journey. Once regarded merely as a supplementary force, the private sector now accounts for around 51% of GDP, generates millions of jobs, and fosters innovation among small- and medium-sized enterprises. In doing so, it has helped shape a dynamic and sustainable economic ecosystem./.

Unpaid credit card balances in Singapore hit record high in 10 years

Experts attributed the worrying trend to factors like people not spending within their means, consumer culture emphasising prestige items, and easier access to credit like “buy now, pay later” services. Analysts said this can be a hint of growing financial pressures faced by Singaporeans amid rising prices.
