Young OVs explore homeland’s gong culture

This year's event is carefully curated to bridge Vietnam’s historical legacy with its dynamic present, helping young the OVs discover the homeland's regions, culture, and history and witness current economic development opportunities and the nation's overall progress.

Dak Lak (VNA) – More than 100 young overseas Vietnamese (OVs) from 31 countries and territories immerse themselves in the resonance of traditional gongs in the central province of Dak Lak on July 15 as part of the ongoing Vietnam Summer Camp 2025 held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese (SCOV).

In its third day, the camp offered the young participants a unique opportunity to explore the region’s rich culture, history, and economic potential. The programme’s highlight was an evening immersion in the gong culture where the OVs enjoyed vibrant traditions of the E de ethnic minority group, including hands-on experience with traditional musical instruments, highlands folk songs, and coffee culture.

Vilatda Moungkhounsin, aged 22 from Laos, shared enthusiasm about the first visit to Dak Lak, saying playing the T'rung musical instrument was fascinating.

SCOV Vice Chairwoman Ngo Thi Thanh Mai said the summer camp is a call and invitation for the young OVs to carry forward the homeland’s values of peace, compassion, tolerance, and aspiration for development.

This year's event is carefully curated to bridge Vietnam’s historical legacy with its dynamic present, helping young the OVs discover the homeland's regions, culture, and history and witness current economic development opportunities and the nation's overall progress.

The camp runs from July 13-26, with activities taking place in Ho Chi Minh City, Dak Lak, Quang Ngai, Da Nang, Quang Tri, Nghe An, Ninh Binh, and Hanoi. In Dak Lak, activities include incense offering at Ho Chi Minh Square, charitable work supporting ethnic minorities, cultural exchanges focused on gong traditions, and a visit to the World Coffee Museum.

The official opening ceremony will be held in Dak Lak on July 16 night while the closing ceremony is planned for July 25 in Hanoi.

The Vietnam Summer Camp has been organised since 2004, with only a two-year interruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic./.

Vietnam Summer Camp 2025 promotes cultural connection, national unity

Running from July 13 - 26, the 2025 camp’s itinerary includes visits to historic and cultural sites like Cu Chi Tunnels, Kon Tum Prison Relic Site, and Quang Tri Martyrs’ Monument. Delegates will also take part in charitable activities in the Central Highlands, experience gong culture, and join exchanges with local youths and officers of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department.

OV maintain constructive approach in contributing ideas to homeland's development

Dung stressed that freedom of expression is an important value, but it must go hand in hand with responsibility, objectivity and a constructive spirit. He said OVs are ready to share professional expertise in education, science and technology, and business governance, and facilitate investment connections and trade promotion. They also help preserve Vietnamese culture and language, promote the country’s image abroad, and support social welfare activities at home.

Prime Minister commends Vietnamese students winning international prizes

According to the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), over the past decade, Vietnamese student teams competing in international academic contests have won a total of 434 prizes, including 132 gold, 169 silver and 133 bronze medals, along with certificates of merit. Many students achieved consecutive gold medals over two years, while some secured gold medals when they were 10th graders.

The UVAJ President also praised the Party and State’s consistent and comprehensive policies towards overseas Vietnamese, ranging from citizen protection and integration support to encouraging their contributions to national development. In particular, creating conditions for overseas Vietnamese to engage in political, economic and cultural activities at home reflects the spirit of great national unity.

Breakthrough mechanisms, policies for education, training approved

Regarding recruitment, employment and management of human resources in the education sector, the Resolution stipulates that the directors of provincial Departments of Education and Training are authorised to recruit and receive teachers, school managers and staff for public kindergartens, general education institutions, continuing education centres, specialised schools and public vocational high schools in their provinces.

Exhibition highlights vitality of Vietnamese cultural heritage

The exhibition features nearly 200 images showcasing Vietnam’s cultural heritage and efforts to preserve and promote its values in recent years. It is structured around four themes: the legal and policy framework for heritage protection; Vietnamese heritage recognised by UNESCO; the diversity and uniqueness of Vietnamese cultural heritage; and cultural heritage for sustainable development.
