Dak Lak (VNA) - The central province of Dak Lak is accelerating efforts to complete the construction or repair of nearly 9,000 houses for poor families, social policy beneficiaries, and disadvantaged people under its programme to eradicate temporary and dilapidated housing, with all units scheduled for handover this month.
The programme has drawn broad participation from provincial agencies, businesses, armed forces, and youth volunteers. To date, over 7,000 houses have been completed and handed over, helping residents stabilise their lives and improve economic conditions.
During the 2025 Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign, local youths joined the housing programme. Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen, a student from the Mientrung University of Civil Engineering (MUCE), said that while State funding covered part of the cost, some poor households still faced difficulties, so they helped build homes for these families.
For Nguyen Phu Quoc’s family in Tuy An Bac commune, the State support of 50 million VND (1,905 USD) eased financial strain, but high labour costs remained a concern. Assistance from student volunteers and the local militia helped complete the house ahead of schedule, allowing the family to settle quickly.
Secretary of provincial youth union Luong Minh Tung said the union had mobilised grassroots units to support eligible families, reflecting its commitment to community development and providing opportunities for young people to demonstrate their volunteer spirit.
Multiple sectors have contributed to the initiative. Dak Lak Power Company has funded the construction of 13 houses for poor and social policy beneficiary households this year, each receiving 70 million VND.
The Dak Lak Border Guard has focused its support in the western border areas, providing work day and fostering stronger community ties. Colonel Ro Lan Ngan, Deputy Political Commissar of the provincial Border Guard Command, said all eligible households had now completed their homes.
The provincial public security force has also been a major contributor, launching nearly 4,300 houses - meeting 100% of its target - with more than 2,600 completed and the remainder expected by August 15. Police units at the commune and ward levels have been tasked with monitoring progress and resolving difficulties to ensure timely completion./.
