Vientiane (VNA) – The five-day first extraordinary session of Laos’ 10th National Assembly (NA) concluded on July 10 after approving key economic, legal and development measures aimed at strengthening growth, improving public services and accelerating rural development and poverty reduction.

According to the Lao national news agency KPL, in his closing remarks, NA President Xaysomphone Phomvihane said the legislature reviewed and adopted the government's reports on the implementation of the 2026 socio-economic development plan, the state budget, and the monetary plan for the first half of the year, together with priorities for the remaining six months.

The NA acknowledged the government's efforts in maintaining economic stability, noting that the economy grew by 5% during the first half, while inflation continued to ease and state revenue collection improved through modernised systems.

Lawmakers urged the government to strengthen tax collection, tighten actions against illegal mining and forest encroachment, improve management of state land concessions, accelerate road rehabilitation, promote electric vehicle adoption, support small and medium-sized enterprises, expand irrigation, and continue reforms of state-owned enterprises. They also called for increased investment in education and health care.

A major outcome of the session was the adoption of the National Agenda on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (2027–2030), which establishes a framework for implementing the goals of the 12th National Party Congress. The agenda focuses on sustainable livelihoods, rural infrastructure, agricultural development, improved access to finance, education, health care, electricity, clean water and telecommunications.

Lawmakers also approved the Law on the State Treasury and the amended Law on the State Budget, together with four resolutions relating to the nation's important matters, all receiving more than 90% support from NA members./.
