Hanoi (VNA) – Singapore has kept its position as the world’s leading maritime centre in the 2026 Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Centre Development Index (ISCDI), winning the honour for the 13th consecutive year.
The ISCDI Report, published on July 10, said the recognition is attributed to Singapore’s strategic location, established maritime services, and importance to alternative fuel development and technological innovation, said the report.
The Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore said on July 10 that the continued recognition reflects the strong commitment and collective efforts of industry partners and the wider maritime community.
In 2025, the Port of Singapore handled a record 44.66 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in container throughput and 3.22 billion gross tonnage in vessel arrivals. The port also maintained its position as the world's largest bunkering hub, supplying a record 56.77 million tonnes of marine fuel, including growing volumes of alternative fuels, the MPA said.
The index is jointly published by Chinese news agency Xinhua and London-based maritime market data firm Baltic Exchange. It evaluates 43 international shipping centres, taking into account port performance, professional maritime services and the wider business environment./.
