Vientiane (VNA) – The 10th National Assembly of Laos officially opened its first extraordinary session on July 6 in Vientiane, under the chair of Politburo member and National Assembly President Xaysomphone Phomvihane.
In his opening remarks, Xaysomphone said the convening of the extraordinary session was in line with the National Assembly's constitutional mandate and responsibilities.
During the five-day sitting, lawmakers are expected to deliberate on and approve several key national issues, including the Government's report on the implementation of the national socio-economic development plan, the state budget and monetary policy during the first half of 2026, as well as priorities for the remainder of the year.
The legislature will also discuss and adopt the national agenda on rural development and poverty reduction and related urgent issues, as well as a new State Treasury Law and amendments to the State Budget Law.
The convening of the extraordinary session reflects the determination of the Lao NA and Government to advance the reform agenda of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and implement the Resolution of the Party's 12th National Congress, including the 10th five-year national socio-economic development plan. It also underscores efforts to promote green and sustainable development while strengthening state governance and the rule of law.
The first extraordinary session of the 10th NA is scheduled to run until July 10./.
