Vientiane (VNA) - Laos and Cambodia on May 25 signed a joint research framework on the feasibility study for connecting electricity transmission systems between the two countries.
The initiative marks a critical milestone under the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026–2030, which identifies the development of the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) as a core priority to establish a unified regional electricity market.
By focusing on cross-border power transmission system integration between Laos and Cambodia, the project will increase capacity for clean energy exchange between the two nations and optimise energy resource management efficiently for Laos.
It will also help the Enable Électricité du Laos (EDL) formulate a comprehensive cross-border integration strategy that aligns with international technical standards and legal frameworks.
The high-priority study project is backed by financial and technical support from the World Bank./.
