Vietnam attaches a great deal of importance to South-South cooperation and considers it a vital for developing countries.
Ninh Thi Binh, Counsellor to Vietnam ’s Permanent Mission to the UN,stated this at the 17 th Session of the High-Level Committee onSouth-South Cooperation in New York on May 23.
Ambassador Le Hoai Trung, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam tothe UN, was elected as Vice Chair of the biennial session, which istaking place from May 22-25.
“Vietnam standsready to cooperate with everyone to build effective mechanisms andpromote South-South and cooperation at all levels- international,regional, sub-regional, and national levels for the mutual benefit ofthe South,” said Binh.
She highlighted the need tostrengthen and develop further efficient and effective models ofSouth-South cooperation and three-way cooperation on agriculturalproduction, healthcare, education, information technology,infrastructure and trade that have produced good results during the lastfew years in many developing countries in Asia and Africa .
Binh also urged that developed countries realise their commitments onofficial development assistance (ODA), trade and market access withdeveloping countries.
“The developed partners shouldremove all policies and measures that create market barriers andprotectionism that are harmful to developing countries, particularlymeasures under the name of green protectionism,” she stressed.
The Vietnamese representative suggested that the UN extends itscentral role to coordinate support from various entities to develop theSouth, including promotion of South-South and three-way cooperation.-VNA
