Vietnam to host Esports Grand Championship for first time

The international tournament, endorsed by the Southeast Asian Esports Federation and recognised under Olympic-standard achievement criteria, will take place from July 9 to 12 at the My Dinh Athletics Palace in Hanoi as part of The Grand Esports 2026 series.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam will host the Esports Grand Championship (EGC) 2026 for the first time, according to the Sports Authority of Vietnam.

The international tournament, endorsed by the Southeast Asian Esports Federation and recognised under Olympic-standard achievement criteria, will take place from July 9 to 12 at the My Dinh Athletics Palace in Hanoi as part of The Grand Esports 2026 series.

The championship will feature competitions in four titles, namely Street Fighter 6, Summoners War: Sky Arena, Audition, and Au Mobile, bringing together leading players from countries with well-established esports scenes.

In Street Fighter 6, a title featured at the Esports World Cup, Vietnamese competitors will face rivals from Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), Thailand and Singapore. The participation of Japan and the RoK, two traditional powerhouses in fighting games, is expected to provide valuable international experience for Vietnamese players.

Vietnam's Summoners War: Sky Arena team will compete teams from Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore, promising highly tactical matches among some of Southeast Asia's strongest communities in the game.

The Audition tournament will feature teams from Vietnam, the RoK, Japan, China and the Philippines. Following their success at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, Vietnamese players will be aiming not only for the home title but also to strengthen their standing against the region's top competitors.

Meanwhile, Au Mobile will see teams from Vietnam, China, Thailand and Türkiye compete. Vietnam's representatives will enter the tournament after qualifying through the National Esports Cup (VENC) 2026, also part of The Grand Esports series.

Hosting the EGC finals will allow domestic fans to watch top-level international competition on home soil while demonstrating Vietnam's capability to stage major regional esports events. The tournament is also expected to help Vietnamese players gain valuable experience and strengthen exchanges with leading esports nations.

The Grand Esports 2026 is organised under the direction of the Vietnam Sports Authority in coordination with the Vietnam Recreational and Electronic Sports Association (VIRESA) and VTC Multimedia Corporation./.
