Vientiane (VNA) – The historical relic site commemorating late President Ho Chi Minh in the Lao province of Savannakhet has attracted more and more visitors these days as the 135th birthday of the Vietnamese leader (May 19, 1890-2025) is nearing.

The site, built in 2013, stands on the spot where President Ho Chi Minh- then using the alias Thau Chin—arrived in June 1929. At that time, he was staying in Northeastern Thailand. He crossed the Mekong River, travelling from Thailand’s Mukdahan to Savannakhet township to assess the political, economic, and social situation to serve the revolutionary activities for national liberation in Vietnam and Laos.

Today, the site is a popular destination for both Vietnamese and Lao people to visit and learn about his revolutionary activities.

A delegation led Vietnamese Consul General in Savannakhet province Dang Thi Hai Tam visited the site and laid a wreath in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh on the occasion of his 135th birthday.

Joining the delegation, students from the Laos-Vietnam Friendship School in Savannakhet expressed their excitement and gratitude when visiting the site and learning about the President Ho Chi Minh.

Nguyen Thanh Hong, a Vietnamese language teacher at the school, said the school usually organises trips to local historic sites on major celebrations of Vietnam.

Such activities help students gain more historical and cultural knowledge, and inspire them to study better so that they can contribute to national development in the future./.
