Viettel Networks, Ericsson partner to advance autonomous telecom networks

Under a newly signed cooperation agreement, Ericsson will provide network automation platforms and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies while working with Viettel to conduct real-world trials. The collaboration marks a new step forward, combining Viettel’s large-scale network operation expertise with Ericsson’s strengths in automation solutions and advanced technologies.

Hanoi (VNA) - Viettel Networks, a subsidiary of Viettel Group, and Ericsson have signed a cooperation agreement on applying advanced technologies in telecom network operations, aiming to accelerate the development of autonomous networks and enhance service quality and customer experience.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress 2026 (MWC 2026), Viettel Networks announced on March 4.

Under the partnership, Ericsson will provide network automation platforms and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies while working with Viettel to conduct real-world trials. The collaboration marks a new step forward, combining Viettel’s large-scale network operation expertise with Ericsson’s strengths in automation solutions and advanced technologies.

The two sides will jointly carry out research, testing and technical assessments to integrate AI into network management and optimisation. The initiative aims to build networks capable of proactively detecting and addressing faults, automatically adjusting to reduce congestion, optimising coverage and performance, and shortening the deployment time for new services.
These improvements are expected to deliver more stable connections, faster speeds and fewer service disruptions for users, particularly as demand for data and digital services continues to grow.

Luu Manh Ha, General Director of Viettel Networks, said the partnership will support the gradual development of a self-operating and self-managing network, minimising manual intervention through AI-based smart control systems. This will enable more flexible service deployment, optimise costs and better meet increasingly complex 5G demands.

Viettel will also participate in developing and testing network optimisation applications while strengthening internal capabilities to independently deploy solutions tailored to operational conditions in Vietnam and its international markets.

By joining Ericsson’s network automation ecosystem, Viettel will gain access to advanced development tools and optimisation applications, helping accelerate network modernisation efforts.

Rita Mokbel, President of Ericsson Vietnam, said the cooperation aims to expand large-scale AI adoption, enhance network orchestration capabilities and develop high-performance programmable networks, reflecting both sides’ commitment to innovation, operational efficiency and readiness for future digital services.

Ha said that following the agreement, Viettel plans to expand autonomous operations across its entire infrastructure, from radio and transmission systems to core networks and IT platforms, moving towards a fully AI-driven network./.
