Quang Ninh (VNA) – Border guards at the Mong Cai International Border Gate in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh rescued a Chinese citizen on April 15 afternoon after he was swept away by a strong current in the Ka Long border river.

The victim, a 37-year-old tourist from China’s Hunan province, had been visiting Dongxing (China) when he accidentally dropped his handbag into the river. He entered the water in an attempt to retrieve it but was carried away by the swift current and rising water levels. He drifted toward the Vietnamese side, near Marker 1368 (2), where border guards were on patrol.

Vietnamese border guards quickly responded, pulling the man from the water and administering first aid and a medical check-up.

Authorities then contacted the Dongxing Immigration Border Guard Checkpoint to confirm the man's identity and coordinated with Chinese officials for his repatriation via the Mong Cai International Border Gate.

At 8:40 p.m. on April 15, the individual was handed over to Chinese authorities.

Earlier in March, the Mong Cai International Border Gate Border Guard Station also provided emergency aid to a Chinese national who suffered a seizure and cardiac arrest while conducting exit procedures at the border gate./.
