Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has called for faster efforts to equip the country's workforce with the skills and expertise needed to succeed in the artificial intelligence (AI) era.
The PM said rapid technological advancements are reshaping industries and creating new opportunities, making it imperative for Malaysia’s education and training ecosystems to adapt.
He noted that AI is transforming not only the way businesses operate but also how trade is conducted, credit is assessed, risks are managed and markets are connected across borders.
To lay a strong foundation for the future, the Malaysian Government is finalising the AI Governance Bill, which will establish a regulatory framework for the human-machine future. The legislation will complement existing laws, including the Cybersecurity Act 2024 and data protection regulations.
Anwar added digital trust is a cornerstone of nation-building in the digital age.
He stressed that Malaysia must move quickly to prepare its young people for emerging industries by strengthening talent development programmes and introducing new disciplines into the education and training system.
"We must ensure our children and young people receive the best possible training and are prepared to venture into new disciplines and opportunities emerging globally," he said.
He asserted that Malaysia must quickly adapt to the pace of technological change to avoid falling behind in an increasingly competitive digital landscape./.
