Hanoi (VNA) – Donation campaigns in support of the Cuban people were launched on September 15 by the High Command of Coast Guard Region 4 and the Border Guard Command of Can Tho city.

The moves were made in response to an appeal from the Vietnam Red Cross Society, marking the 65th anniversary of Vietnam – Cuba diplomatic relations (December 2, 1960–2025) and highlighting the enduring solidarity between the two nations.

In the Phu Quoc special zone of An Giang province, the Coast Guard Region 4 High Command called on its officers and soldiers to contribute, stressing that the effort reflects Vietnam’s humanitarian tradition and sense of responsibility towards international friends.

Maj. Gen. Nguyen Van Dung, Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of the Coast Guard Region 4 High Command, emphasised the faithful relationship between Vietnam and Cuba, forged during their struggles for independence, and that the campaign also serves as a reminder to younger officers and soldiers of the importance of international solidarity and social responsibility.

Funds collected will be transferred through the Vietnam Red Cross Society to reach the Cuban people.

The same day in Can Tho, the city’s Border Guard Command held a fundraising drive under the theme “65 Years of Vietnam – Cuba Solidarity”. Officers and soldiers voluntarily donated part of their salaries and allowances to help Cuba overcome current economic challenges.

The donation campaigns were viewed as practical actions that demonstrate Vietnam’s commitment to sharing difficulties with Cuba while strengthening the special friendship between the two peoples./.
