- Party General Secretary and State President To Lam hailed early-year outcomes made by the people’s public security force during a conference of the Central Public Security Party Committee in Hanoi on June 24.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu also attended the event, which was chaired by Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang. Read full story

- Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu has signed a conclusion approving in principle to establish Bac Ninh as a centrally-run city within its existing administrative borders.

The Politburo reviewed a proposal sent on May 19 by the Bac Ninh provincial Party Committee asking for the upgrade. Read full story

- Vietnam Coast Guard vessel CSB 8005 has made its first official visit to Malaysia’s Pahang state from June 22-25, underscoring the close friendship and cooperation between maritime law enforcement agencies of the two countries.

The visit follows the elevation of Vietnam–Malaysia relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in November 2024. Read full story

- Passengers travelling on flights in Vietnam will be required to keep power banks in their carry-on baggage from July 1, 2026, under new regulations aimed at enhancing aviation safety and preventing onboard fires caused by lithium batteries.

The new directive, issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), stipulates that each passenger may carry no more than two power banks on a flight. Read full story

- The maximum ratio of short-term capital used for medium- and long-term lending by credit institutions will be raised from the current 30% to 40% from July 1, according to a newly issued circular from the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV).

Circular 25/2026/TT-NHNN on limits for ratios in banking operations in Việt Nam will also amend regulations on determining total deposits when calculating the loan-to-deposit ratio. Read full story

- A Vietnam Airlines flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Shanghai made an unscheduled landing in Hong Kong (China) on June 24 after a passenger fell seriously ill mid-flight.

Flight VN524, an Airbus A350, was carrying nearly 250 people when passenger T.A.T. in seat 1K began showing signs of deteriorating health. Cabin crew rushed to provide first aid following standard onboard medical procedures, but the passenger’s condition failed to improve. Read full story

- Vietnamese Minister of Justice Hoang Thanh Tung had a meeting with Russian Minister of Justice Konstantin Chuychenko on June 24 to discuss concrete measures for implementing cooperation agreements signed between the two ministries.

At the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the 14th Saint Petersburg International Legal Forum in Russia, Chuychenko noted that Russia’s decision to invite Vietnam as the forum’s sole guest country reflected recognition of Vietnam’s growing role in shaping the contemporary international legal landscape. He described cooperation between the two justice ministries as a model for bilateral relations, built on the legal assistance treaty covering civil and criminal matters. Read full story

- Can Tho and India have a lot of untapped potential to work together by playing to each other’s strengths, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Le Quang Tung told Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Tshering Wangchuk Sherpa during a recent working session.

Tung noted that the bilateral relationship has made headway over the past few years but remains well short of its potential.
