Khanh Hoa (VNA) – Officers and soldiers stationed at Da Lat (Ladd Reef), part of the Truong Sa special zone in south-central Khanh Hoa province, have successfully rescued five fishermen whose vessel ran aground approximately 1.3 nautical miles from the reef, according to the Naval Region 4 Command.

On July 10 afternoon, the observation team on the reef discovered that Vessel PY 92628TS, owned and captained by Huynh Van Nhiem, a local of Phu Yen ward of Dak Lak province, was stranded and unable to rectify the situation.

Upon receiving the report, the reef's commanding officer immediately mobilised personnel to coordinate with Survey Ship 883 to carry out the rescue operation. By 3:05pm on the same day, a rescue boat from Ship 883 arrived at the site and successfully evacuate the five fishermen to the reef. The medical team there conducted prompt health checks and confirmed that the fishermen were in stable condition, with no injuries caused by the grounding.

Further investigation revealed that the vessel had anchored near the reef at noon of July 9. However, by midday on July 10, its anchor line had snapped, causing the boat to drift and become stranded. Due to a breach in the hull, the vessel could no longer be salvaged, and as a result, all fishing equipment and gear were transferred to another fishing boat from Dak Lak. This boat then proceeded to bring the stranded fishermen safely back to shore.

Additionally, the fishermen were provided with emergency supplies, including instant noodles, canned meat, vegetables, and personal items./.
