Ha Tinh (VNA) - Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu, accompanied by a central working delegation, visited the central province of Ha Tinh on September 30 to encourage local people and support recovery efforts following Typhoon Bualoi.

The typhoon, the 10th storm entering the East Sea so far this year, made landfall in Vietnam on early September 29 with maximum sustained winds reaching levels 10–11, with gusts up to levels 13–14, unleashing destruction across a vast swath of north-central and northern Vietnam.

According to Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Vo Trong Hai, the storm left one dead and 15 injuries, damaged more than 84,500 homes, 408 schools and 68 health facilities, and devastated infrastructure works. Agriculture suffered extensive losses, with 1,552 hectares of crops destroyed, thousands of poultry killed, and 936 hectares of aquaculture flooded, causing the loss of 1,500 tonnes of aquatic products.

Key dykes and embankments were breached, while many roads were submerged or collapsed. At the Vung Ang Economic Zone, a 50,000 sq.m coal warehouse of Vung Ang 2 Thermal Power Plant collapsed, and Viet-Lao Port sustained heavy structural damage. Several factories and industrial facilities, including Hoa Sen Steel Plant, also suffered significant losses. Total damage in the province is estimated at over 6 trillion VND (227.04 million USD).

Immediately after the storm, provincial authorities deployed inspection teams to affected areas. Police, military and youth forces were mobilised to assist residents, while electricity and telecommunications services were rapidly restored. Ha Tinh asked for support to upgrade dykes, dams, schools and other vital infrastructure.

Tu extended deep sympathy to Ha Tinh for its losses, commended local authorities and communities for their swift response, and urged them to prioritise saving lives, restoring livelihoods and reviving economic activities.

He emphasised post-flood sanitation, epidemic prevention, urgent repair of dykes, power lines, roads, schools and clinics, and proper care for families of the deceased and injured. Effective public communication is crucial for disaster preparedness and maintaining social stability, Tu stressed.

The official assured Ha Tinh that its proposals will be reported to higher authorities for consideration. On this occasion, he presented the Party and State's aid, while Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Ha Thi Nga, together with enterprises, gave donations to the province. The total sum amounted to 8.7 billion VND.

Nga also announced that the Hanoi Fatherland Front Committee has allocated 15 billion VND from its Relief Fund to assist Ha Tinh province./.
