Hanoi (VNA) – Singapore has recalled two batches of formula milk products due to the presence of cereulide toxin, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) reported on March 15.
According to a joint statement from the two agencies, the toxin, which can cause nausea and vomiting, was found in a batch of Nestle NAN HA2 infant formula and a batch of Nature One Dairy Premium Toddler Milk Formula, meant for children over one year old.
The affected products include Nestle NAN HA2 (800g) from batch number 52750017C1, manufactured in Switzerland, and Nature One Dairy Organic Toddler Milk Formula – Stage 3 (900g) from batch number 326251110, produced in Australia. The products in the Nestle batch expire on October 31, 2027, while those in the Nature One Dairy batch carry expiry dates of November 10 or November 11, 2027.
Since January 8, a total of 11 batches of formula milk products – comprising Nestle NAN, Nature One Dairy and Dumex Dulac products – have been recalled due to the presence of the toxin.
SFA and CDA added that there had been no new cases of individuals who have developed mild symptoms likely associated with cereulide exposure after consuming the affected products since their last update on such cases on January 30. They reported three cases at the time, with all three having recovered.
The local authorities said currently, there are no definitive clinical laboratory tests available to confirm cereulide poisoning. However, CDA is working closely with SFA and is conducting surveillance with medical practitioners to monitor for potential cases of cereulide poisoning in children.
Consumers who have bought the affected products should not feed them to their children, and those whose children have consumed these products and are unwell should seek medical advice promptly, SFA and CDA said, adding that consumers may contact their point of purchase for product enquiries.
The local authorities said the implicated batches of imported infant formula milk products account for about 5% of Singapore's imported supply and are a "minority" of overall infant formula milk products available in the country.
For the implicated batches of formula milk product meant for children above one year old, they represent a negligible portion of the overall market supply, with alternative options readily available, they noted./.
