Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Alongside other traditional and contemporary art forms, tuong (classical opera) is adding to Hanoi’s rich array of cultural experiences after dark.

The Vietnam National Traditional Theatre has presented audiences with the classic tuong production Moc Que Anh, featuring a famous heroine who grows up exceptionally skilled in martial arts. Unlike the conventional image of a sheltered young woman, she is portrayed as confident, independent and capable of defeating accomplished male warriors.

Blending stylised movement, traditional music and nuanced characterisation, the production takes audiences through a range of emotions while conveying profound messages about love, courage and devotion to a greater cause.

Through the production, young audiences and international visitors can not only enjoy the performance but also learn about tuồng make-up, costumes and props, interact with artists and experience the art form’s distinctive movements firsthand.

The approach brings traditional theatre closer to the public while creating new opportunities to connect cultural heritage with tourism, the development of the cultural industries and Hanoi’s growing night-time economy.

As more visitors explore the city after dark, demand for artistic performances, creative products and cultural experiences is expected to grow.

The city’s recently approved project to develop the night-time economy for 2026–2030, with a vision to 2045, is expected to provide fresh momentum for the cultural industries while strengthening Hanoi’s position as a creative, modern city with a distinctive cultural identity./.
