Vietnam, Canada look forward to early elevation of bilateral ties

Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung stressed Vietnam attaches importance to its relations with Canada and stands ready to work with the latter to step up substantive cooperation towards the early elevation of the Vietnam–Canada Comprehensive Partnership, in line with the political trust, cooperation potential and interests of the two countries’ peoples.

Hanoi (VNA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung held phone talks with his Canadian counterpart Anita Anand on August 22.

Trung affirmed that Vietnam highly values Canada’s important role and voice in regional and international affairs.

He stressed Vietnam attaches importance to its relations with Canada and stands ready to work with the latter to step up substantive cooperation towards the early elevation of the Vietnam–Canada Comprehensive Partnership, in line with the political trust, cooperation potential and interests of the two countries’ peoples.

The Vietnamese minister spoke highly of the two sides' close coordination in effectively implementing the outcomes of the July 21, 2026 phone call between Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, as well as the July 22 meeting between the two foreign ministers on the sidelines of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in the Philippines.

He proposed that they continue close coordination to elevate bilateral ties as agreed by the two countries’ leaders, and further strengthen political trust through exchanges at all levels and via various channels, with priority given to high-level visits.

Trung also suggested deepening economic connectivity and linking the Vietnam–ASEAN–Canada–North America supply chains, promoting cooperation in science, technology, innovation, security, defence, education and high-quality human resources training, and working closely with each other at regional and international forums.

For his part, Anand reaffirmed that Canada considers Vietnam an important partner in ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific region.

She shared Trung’s assessment of the two sides’ recent coordination efforts to facilitate high-level visits and upgrade Canada–Vietnam relations to a new level.

The Canadian official agreed to enhance coordination and expand collaboration in areas matching the two sides' strengths and complementary needs. She encouraged ministries, sectors, localities and businesses of both countries to step up connectivity and proactively put forward specific cooperation initiatives and projects.

Trung and Anand agreed to maintain regular exchanges between the two foreign ministers and their ministries, contributing to the increasingly substantive, effective and in-depth development of Vietnam–Canada relations./.

Lawmakers debate real estate bill to shield buyers, curb price rigging

Under Article 20 of the draft Law on Real Estate Business, buyers may pay up to 70% of the contract value before receiving the property and up to 95% before obtaining an ownerhsip certificate, with the remaining 5% held in escrow or secured through another mechanism. The draft also features regulations on bank guarantees for off-plan housing.

Vietnam, Russia seek to step up comprehensive strategic partnership

The two sides reviewed bilateral relations since the previous consultation in Hanoi in February 2025 and discussed concrete orientations and measures to address difficulties and promote cooperation between the two countries and their foreign ministries. They agreed to closely coordinate preparations for high-level delegation exchanges, particularly those scheduled for the remaining months of 2026.

Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue - New development step in bilateral relations

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong said that the visit marks several first milestones, as it will be the first official visit to Singapore by a Standing Member of the CPV Central Committee’s Secretariat. It will also inaugurate the Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue mechanism, which the two countries’ leaders agreed to establish during General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and President To Lam’s state visit to Singapore in May.
