Air passengers down in first five months due to COVID-19

There were 122,000 flights from and to Vietnamese airports in the first five months of this year, down 5.9 percent year-on-year, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

Hanoi (VNA) - There were 122,000 flights from and to Vietnameseairports in the first five months of this year, down 5.9 percent year-on-year,according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

The number of passengers stood at 25.5 million, down 4.9 percent. Of these,116,000 were international passengers, down 98.3 percent, while the remainder were localtravellers, up 27.7 percent.

Vietnamese carriers catered to 12.8 million passengers, up 1.8 percentyear-on-year, including 66,000 international passengers, down 97.5 percent, and 12.7 millionlocal travellers, up 28.3 percent.

Passenger numbers were 1.35 million in May, down 27.8 percent year-on-year,of whom 14,000 were international passengers, up 55.6 percent, and 1.32 million were domestic passengers,down 28.8 percent.

Some 570,000 tonnes of cargo were transported during the period, up 15percent year-on-year.

CAAV General Director Dinh Viet Thang said the COVID-19 pandemic has seriously damagedcivil aviation activities around the country, with domestic airlines being thehardest hit./.

Data from Enterprise Singapore indicated that bilateral trade reached 13.6 billion SGD (10.6 billion USD) in Q1, up 38.3% year-on-year. Export orders surge despite global headwinds

By late April, C&D Import-Export Co., Ltd., a wood and plywood exporter, had secured orders through the end of Q2. According to C&D Chairman Nguyen Tran Luat, contracts for Q3 are still being negotiated on a monthly basis rather than long-term deals. However, contrary to earlier concerns, order volumes in Q2 have risen sharply as buyers stockpile amid fears of prolonged geopolitical tensions, oil price volatility and shipping disruptions.

Tan Son Nhat airport braces for holiday surge with 750 daily flights

According to the airport authority, on average, daily flights will increase by around 12% from normal levels, with about 450 domestic and 300 international flights each day.
