HCM City to do away with substandard houses by April 30, 2025

Ho Chi Minh City kick-started its housing construction and repair programme in Can Thanh town, Can Gio district on December 31, aimed at eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the city by April 30 next year.

HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City kick-started its housing construction and repair programme in Can Thanh town, Can Gio district on December 31, aimed at eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the city by April 30 next year.

According to Ngo Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee, local authorities have identified 323 poor and near-poor households in need of housing renovation or reconstruction that will cost over 20 billion VND (785,000 USD) in total.

The initiative will be implemented in two phases, with 100 houses to be built during the first phase from December 23, 2024 to January 22, 2025 and 223 houses in the second one from February 12 to April 30, 2025.

Son said the groundbreaking ceremony is a demonstration of the solidarity and social responsibility of the whole political system, business community and local residents, adding the success of the programme will not only help improve local livelihoods but also promote the city’s development.

At the event, several financial institutions such as Agribank, OCB, Eximbank, VIB and Vietinbank donated 25.37 billion VND to the “for the poor” fund to support the housing programme./.
