Lotte Scholarship Foundation supports 100 outstanding Vietnamese students

The Foundation currently supports exceptional students in four countries, namely Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia and the Philippines. As of this year, it has awarded a total of 3.8 billion KRW to around 7,000 students.

Seoul (VNA) - The Lotte Scholarship Foundation announced on November 24 that it had delivered scholarships worth 66 million KRW (around 45,000 USD) to 100 students from 10 universities in Vietnam.

The foundation selected scholarship recipients through a final review of schools recommended by Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training, before considering and making the final decision.

The 100 awardees, chosen from five universities in Ho Chi Minh City and five in Hanoi, each received a scholarship worth 450 USD. The total funding for the 2025 scholarship round amounts to 66 million KRW, bringing Lotte’s cumulative scholarship support for Vietnam to around 1.7 billion KRW.

Since 2008, the Lotte Scholarship Foundation has sought outstanding talents across Southeast Asia, helping students develop into future global leaders. The Foundation currently supports exceptional students in four countries, namely Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia and the Philippines. As of this year, it has awarded a total of 3.8 billion KRW to around 7,000 students.

Jang Hye Seon, Director of the Lotte Scholarship Foundation, said by concentrating scholarship support on Vietnamese students, the Foundation hopes recipients will not only strive to become leaders in Vietnam but also pursue their studies with dedication and aspire to become global leaders./.

Vietnam continued to lead the region in both key areas. The average Reading score was 323.5 points and Mathematics 334.6 points, maintaining the top positions despite slight declines from 2019. Some 66% of Vietnamese pupils reached advanced proficiency in Reading while the regional average was 40% and 88% in Mathematics with the regional average reaching 36%.

Quang Tri targets sustainable fisheries sector

Authorities are simultaneously guiding vessel owners to monitor permit validity, safety certifications and food safety approvals to avoid slipping into non-compliant status. The Department of Agriculture and Environment has been urged to expedite paperwork to ensure qualified vessels can access fishing grounds legally.

Coast Guard Region 2 Command effectively handles maritime violations

The unit deployed 223 ship and boat sorties, covering more than 120,000 safe nautical miles. It detected, prevented and handled nearly 200 cases of violations of maritime law, dismantled eight major drug-related rings, and took action against 41 vessel owners for illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Khanh Hoa rebuilds homes for flood-hit households

Data from the Khanh Hoal People’s Committee showed that floods from November 16-22 caused severe human and property losses in the province. A total of 89 homes were destroyed, and 294 were seriously damaged, significantly affecting residents’ daily lives.

VNA, Xinhua deepen time-tested collaboration

The two sides agreed to continue to effectively implement and diversify areas of cooperation, with a focus on enhancing the information and communications regarding the strategic comprehensive cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China.

Quang Tri tightens control to prevent fishing‑rule violations

To contribute to the country’s efforts to have the EC’s yellow card removed, Quang Tri has been intensifying measures to prevent IUU fishing. Local forces have strengthened coordination to strictly control vessel movements, catch declarations and regulation compliance, while enhancing communication to ensure fishers operate lawfully.

The two news agencies agreed to further utilise their information data archives, especially their file photo resources; enhance the practicality of delegation exchanges; and soon renew the professional cooperation agreement to align with the strong development of today’s digital media.
