Ninh Binh (VNA) – The People’s Committee of the northern province of Ninh Binh on March 23 issued regulations on areas subject to seasonal fishing bans, prohibited fishing methods and gear in coastal, offshore and inland waters in the province.
The ban will be in effect from April 1 to June 30, aiming to protect and sustainably develop aquatic resources in line with guidance from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
Under the decision, the restricted fishing zone covers the Quat Lam coastal area, including the communes of Giao Hung, Giao Binh, Giao Ninh, Hai Quang and Hai Tien.
Prohibited fishing methods and gear include trawl fishing, except small shrimp trawls, trap systems such as wire traps and fixed fish traps in coastal and inland waters, light-assisted fishing activities, except handline squid fishing, in coastal areas, and stationary fishing methods including stake nets and related techniques.
The use of motorised vessels for certain fishing practices in coastal and inland waters is also banned, along with seabed dredging methods using metal frames combined with boats, tractors or pumping equipment, such as eel and mollusc dredging.
In addition, the provincial authorities require fishermen to comply with minimum mesh-size standards stipulated for fishing gear used in both marine and inland waters./.
Digital tools power Vietnam’s shift toward smarter fisheries
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has coordinated with relevant ministries, agencies and localities to finalise integrated fisheries data systems, including licensing and registration through the national fisheries database (Vnfishbase), electronic fishing logbooks (elogbook), eCDT, VMS, and digital platforms for handling administrative violations in the fisheries sector.
