Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese Party andState always give special attention and care to the working class, labourersand trade unions, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc said on April 28.

Addressing a ceremony held in Hanoi to celebrate the135th anniversary of International Labour Day (May 1), the Presidentsaid workers and labourers have continued to play an important role after 30years of reform, noting they are the driving force in the process of national industrialisationand modernisation.

President Phuc hailed initiatives raised by tradeunion members and employees nationwide for the development of their businesses,agencies, units and the nation as a whole.

Pointing out difficulties facing workers andlabourers in general, notably those working in the informal sector, as Vietnamand the world are combating COVID-19, the leader stressed that the Party andthe State have adopted effective measures to fight the pandemic and recover thenational economy.

Incomes of labourers are expected to increase againand new jobs would be created in the time ahead, helping to boost the rapid,sustainable economic growth of the country, the President said.

In that spirit, he emphasised the need for theVietnamese trade union to soon draw up an action plan in order to realise theResolution adopted at the 13th National Party Congress, saying theplan must carry forward the core, pioneer role of workers and labourersnationwide.

At the same time, trade union organisations at alllevels should revamp their operational methods to better care and protectlegitimate rights and interests of workers, he said.

Nguyen Dinh Khang, President of the Vietnam GeneralConfederation of Labour (VGCL), highlighted great contributions of the workingclass to the development of the Vietnamese revolution.

The VGCL has chosen the theme of “Solidarity,Creativity, Overcoming Difficulties, Development” for 2021, he said, addingthat up to 245,000 initiatives were raised by workers and labourers across thecountry under a programme launched by the confederation.

On this occasion, the VGCL launched the Workers’Month and the Month for Labour Safety and Hygiene./.

Over 513,000 people supported in disaster response in 2025

Throughout 2025, the Vietnam Red Cross Society maintained its frontline role, rolling out proactive response plans, expanding training and drills, and strengthening public awareness. Forecast-based early action initiatives were implemented in central provinces and major urban centres, contributing to reduced losses, alongside improved coordination in risk monitoring and early warning systems.

Overseas scholar honoured for contributions to national development, Vietnam - Australia ties

The Certificate of Merit recognises Lien’s leadership in 10 Australia-funded projects implemented at Curtin University since 2022, focusing on key areas including energy transition, carbon market development, digital transformation and policy building. Notably, a capacity-building programme for around 200 Vietnamese officials and leaders has helped enhance human resources and promote practical cooperation between the two countries.

Photo exhibitions highlight Vietnam’s unity, Ho Chi Minh City’s dynamism

Vietnamese Embassy in Japan ready to take citizen protection measures amid quake, tsunami alerts

The embassy and other Vietnamese representative offices in Japan have been actively guiding the Vietnamese community, especially in high-risk areas such as the northeastern region, on disaster preparedness and response, as well as how to contact representative offices in emergencies. An around-the-clock citizen protection hotline remains in operation to promptly receive and handle information.

All four Vietnamese students sweep medals at Moscow int’l chemistry olympiad

Vietnam - France friendship captured through photographs
